Quickly estimate your fuel expenses for any trip based on distance, fuel economy, and current gas prices.
MPG stands for miles per gallon. It measures how many miles your vehicle can travel on one gallon of fuel. Higher MPG means better fuel efficiency and lower fuel costs.
The formula is: Cost = (Distance ÷ MPG) × Gas Price. This tells you how many gallons you'll need and multiplies that by the current price per gallon.
Real-world MPG depends on driving conditions, highway vs. city driving, vehicle load, weather, and driving habits. Highway driving typically yields better efficiency than city driving.
One-way cost is for traveling from point A to point B. Round-trip doubles that cost because you're traveling the same distance twice (there and back).
Check your car's owner manual, EPA estimates online, or calculate it manually by dividing total miles driven by gallons needed to refill your tank. Your dashboard may also display estimated MPG.
