Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good GPA?
A GPA of 3.5 or higher is typically considered very good, 3.0-3.4 is good, 2.5-2.9 is satisfactory, and below 2.5 may affect academic standing or graduate school eligibility. However, what's "good" depends on your school and goals.
How is GPA calculated?
GPA is calculated by multiplying each grade's point value by the course's credit hours, summing all those products, and dividing by the total credit hours. For example, an A (4.0) in a 4-credit course contributes 16 quality points.
What's the difference between GPA and weighted GPA?
This calculator computes weighted GPA, which accounts for credit hours. Unweighted GPA simply averages your grades regardless of course credits. Weighted GPA is more accurate since it reflects that higher-credit courses have more impact.
Can I include pass/fail courses?
Pass/fail courses typically don't count toward GPA calculations at most institutions. We recommend only entering graded courses (A through F) in this calculator.
What if I want to improve my GPA?
Taking additional courses with high grades can raise your cumulative GPA over time. Since this calculator is weighted by credits, high grades in higher-credit courses have more impact than those in lower-credit courses.
